World Cup Qualifier: Nigeria share points with South Africa.


Nigeria were held to a 1-1 draw by South Africa in their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Akwa Ibom.

South Africa took the lead in the 29th minute through Themba Zwane.

Nigeria equalized in the 46th minute courtesy a goal from Fisayo Dele-Bashiru.

Both teams had chances to win the match in the second half, but they were unable to find a way past each other’s defense.

South Africa were the better team in the first half and deservedly took the lead. However, Nigeria came out stronger in the second half and equalized through Bashiru.

Nigeria are now on three points from three matches, while South Africa are on four points from three matches.

Nigeria will now play Benin away in their next qualifier, while South Africa will face Zimbabwe at home.

Overall, it was a fair result for both teams.
