Parliament Launches Parliamentary Friendship Association


Following multiple rescheduling of the inauguration of the Parliamentary Friendship Association, it was unveiled today 20th December, 2023 at Parliament House.

This is an association that includes 40 countries of which Algeria, China, Egypt, France, Germany, Japan, Nigeria, Russia, USA, UK, South Africa, among others are members.

The inauguration ceremony was conducted by the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin.

The inauguration had participation of ambassadors representing certain member countries, along with members of the Ghanaian Parliament.

The Speaker of Parliament stated the focus of the Association in his speech during the launch.” The main aim is to foster bilateral relations between said countries primarily through sharing of information, sights and perspectives,” he said.

He further mentioned that the association is a non-partisan association which involves chairs who are Members of Parliament from both ruling and non-ruling parties in government to facilitate critical inspiration, understanding and allow governments to communicate their national and international issues.

The speaker of Parliament pronounced his expectations towards the association saying he is looking forward to see the association “serve as a platform for comprehensive engagement between our members of parliament and partnered state legislators , government and civil societies.”

“We are expecting that this association will make great impact on the international community,” he added.
